Cluster analysis is used in genetics to generate hypotheses of organisms evolution. It is namely the hierachical methods producing dendrograms interpreted as evolutionary trees that are are applied to asses genetical similarity of biological objects.

The contribution concerns the influence of clustering parametres (i.e. encoding the nucleotides, distances, clustering method) to the configuration of resulting trees.

Finally, the other potentionality of cluster analysis - classification - is presented. There are studied appropriate criteria of partitioning the observation into groups.
