Abstrakt:
Minimal surfaces are very known and rich object of study in differential geometry, whose study has been very intensive since the middle of the 19th century and is in focus still today. The magazine Notices of AMS devoted them in 2017 its cover with the title "A New Golden Age of Minimal Surfaces"
https://www.ams.org/journals/notices/201704/rnoti-p347.pdf.
Minimal surfaces have many equivalent definitions. What is striking is that they can be realized as soap films and bubbles, which makes them an attractive topic for a diverse audience and also an interesting material for active learning of mathematics.
In this presentation, we will outline fundamental aspects of minimal surfaces, including their properties and illustrative examples from real-life, as well as their manifestations such as soap films and bubbles.
